tap. tap.
Leiko's pencil made contact with the desk again. tap. By now plenty of kids had to be getting annoyed with her. tap. She was was surprised the teacher hadn't said anything yet. tap. Someone glared at her from the other side of the room. taptap. The teacher stopped mid-sentence. tap.
"Alright who's doing that?" The teacher demanded to know turning to face the class. Several students turned toward Leiko effectively ratting her out. At this point a normal person would have tried to play innocent, with varying degrees of success, but not Leiko. She stared forward blankly toward the teacher. "Please stop tapping your pencil ms. Yamada." the teacher said sending her meaningful glance. Leiko nodded.
Really, what was the problem? It wasn't near the worst she could do. Banned from her previous activity Leiko spared a glance around. The boy to her left had somehow escaped the teacher's sight and was out like a light, drooling into his textbook. The student to her right was reading a note behind her textbook. The girl in front of her seemed to be focused on the lesson. Upon further inspection Lei could see the girl was leaning a little too forward and her hands seemed to be in her lap not on the desk. A texter, Leiko noted to herself finding no interest to investigate more. Leiko poised her pencil above the desk once again.
poke. psst.
She stopped and glanced behind her. An average looking girl was giving her a obviously curious look. She seemed to take a moment to think about something briefly before asking, "Can you really see ghosts?"
pause. snap.
Within seconds of the innocent question being asked Leiko's pencil was in half and she had the girl by the front of the shirt. "So what if I do? Do you have a problem with it?" She shouted angrily at the terrified girl. Leiko didn't wait for an answer. Anger took hold, pulled her arm back, and turned her hand into a fist.
