Raeko smiled as he stepped out of Urahara's shop, feeling a great deal better than he had earlier in the day. Several years ago, before he'd decided to return to the Shinigami and the Seiretei in general, he'd run into Urahara while on patrol, immediately recognizing the man for who he was and from that point on Raeko had frequented Urahara's shop for a long time, coming in often just to visit with Urahara and help it whenever he could, thankful for the friendship and company it provided in an otherwise lonely world. Even since he'd returned to the Seiretei and been promoted to the rank of Captain, he still tried to frequent the tiny shop as often as he could, which sadly hadn't been as often recently due to his duties as Captain and the large amount of Hollows that had been appearing lately.
However he made it a point to visit for another particular reason, after making many trips to Urahara's shop, he'd become very familiar with the other people living and working at the shop as well, Tessai, Jinta, and Ururu. Almost immediately Raeko felt a deep since of sympathy for Ururu at the way Jinta repeatedly picked on her and belittled her, even to the point where Raeko had scolded Jinta for his behavior, though of course the boy smirked off his lecture and told Raeko to get lost. Ururu had thanked Raeko for his concern, but had told him that it was alright and he shouldn't worry. From that point forward whenever Raeko came to Urahara's shop, he always made sure to bring some sort of present for Ururu, whether it be some candy, or a stuffed animal, just anything to help lift her mood.
This visit he'd brought her a doll that he'd bought at a local store while in his gigai, and had made a special visit to the shop just to give it to her. He couldn't help but feel slightly responsible for the girl, even though she was under Urahara's care, they had grown close enough to where he considered her almost as his little sister in a sense, and when he'd given her the gift, the look of surprise and happiness on her face warmed his heart, and for a brief moment he could have sworn he saw the hints of a smile on her normal sad features. Jinta had started to take the doll from her, saying that it was lame and just like the other fifty that she had, but Ururu had done something that had surprised even Raeko, she'd given Jinta such a hard look that it stopped the boy in his tracks, and instead he devoted his attention to something else, wary of the girl.
"Uhm...excuse me... Mister Ichinose...?" Came the small and timid voice that he knew so well from behind him. Raeko stopped his progress, turning slowly to face the girl, a smile already playing across his features. "I've told you many times before, Ururu, that you can call me Raeko..." He said as warmly as he could. They'd had this conversation many times before, and it always went the same way. "Yes Mister Ichinose... I know. I just wanted to say... thank you for the gift..." She said, her eyes staying trained on her feet. Raeko walked closer towards her, kneeling down infront of her so that they were eye level, placing his right hand on her shoulder. "You're welcome Ururu... I'll try to make another visit soon, now you should get back inside before Jinta eats all of your lunch.." He said with a smile, watching as the girl giggled softly to herself and nodded, turning to go back inside.
Raeko stood up straight once more, watching the young girl walk back into the shop, and remaining in place for a few moments after she'd re-entered the building. Urahara had once asked him why he was so nice to Ururu, finding it confusing, and Raeko had simply replied, "Nobody else takes the time to say anything or do anything nice to her..." Was all he'd said in response, and Urahara seemed to know what he had meant, nodding and ending the conversation at that. Raeko finally turned and began to walk away from the building once more, a rare full smile evident on his features.
(OOC: Hope you don't mind that I auto'd Ururu and Urahara like that, just figured it wouldn't be a big enough deal to cause problems. I was watching a few episodes and got the idea for the backstory so I hope it's alright.)
